Martha "Lady"

Monica R.
"Martha Martha"

"And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things..." Luke 10:41 KJV

Martha is introduce in the Bible as the sister of Mary and Lazarus of Bethany, a family that Jesus loved. We also learn that Martha is a server and I believe that’s what she was great at.

One day while Jesus was visiting this family, Martha was annoyed. Martha was doing all the work in the kitchen - preparing to serve her family, Jesus and his followers ,while her sister, Mary was sitting at Jesus feet listening to him teach. Martha became upset because Mary was able to sit with Jesus and learn while she was working hard. She felt unappreciated. I believe many of us as women have been Martha at one time in our life, because we can have a little jealousy in us sometimes toward other women or family member. We may look at another and wonder why they have it easy or why they have more than us and we work hard or struggle.

I have learned that everyone can’t handle the same struggle or situation that the next person can. You might break or even consider suicide if you had to live the next person's life. Mary might not have been a great server, but she was a learner. Focusing on what her sister was not doing in the kitchen made Martha not realize that serving the Lord was the best position to have. She opened her home up and served this great man who is a healer, miracle worker, wise and the man who would one day die for her sins. There aren’t many who can say they served the Lord in the physical form and instead of being honored she was annoyed to the point where she even asked the Lord to tell Mary to help her. Jesus replied, "Martha, Martha you are worried and trouble about many things, but one is needed and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." This verse tells us not to worry or compare our task to the next persons, because the Lord puts us where He wants us.

The story of the biblical character, Martha teaches us that regardless of the job your assigned keep your focus in the right place and be patient. 2 Chronicles 15:7 say, "but as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded."
